As the <a href="https://gardner.utah.edu/blog/blog-age-sex-race-and-ethnicity-estimates-release-from-the-census-bureau/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">nation and Utah become more racially and ethnically diverse</a>, I will fight GOP attacks that leave our colleges and universities unprepared to serve<a href="https://www.equityinhighered.org/wp-content/uploads/2024/05/REHE2024_Exec_Summary.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer"> our students</a> for a global marketplace.</p>

<p>The Davis County Pride Festival features more than 120 vendors/exhibitors, numerous entertainers, food trucks, and much more!&nbsp; Our festival is free to the public and happens in early May each year unofficially kicking off 'Pride Season' for all of Utah.&nbsp;</p><p>I will be at the Davis County Democrats Table from 3-5 pm. </p>

<p><span style="color: var(--color-text-accent-primary); text-decoration-color: var(--color-text-accent-primary);"><strong>Washington Terrace resident Dave Calder, Democrat, announced his candidacy for Utah House District 11</strong></span><strong>.</strong></p><p>Calder stated "More Utahns want the legislature to implement Democratic values, such as fair congressional redistricting. They deserve a legislature willing to stand up to Donald Trump."</p>

<ul><li><p>Fifty-two states already recognize food taxes disproportionately hurt people with lower incomes and have eliminated it. Utah needs to end this tax.</p></li><li><p>Online retailers are using AI to adjust prices by mining your personal data. I will work to bring transparency to <a href="https://www.pbs.org/newshour/show/how-online-retailers-are-using-ai-to-adjust-prices-by-mining-your-personal-data" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">predatory pricing practices</a> so you know which corporations have been using your personal data and algorithms to squeeze you with higher prices. I will bring this practice into the open and work to eliminate it.</p></li><li><p>I will work to eliminate<a href="https://www.roadusagechargeutah.org/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer"> disincentives</a> for energy efficient transportation that also reduces pollution in Utah.</p></li></ul>

<p>Utah's cost of living is one of the <a href="https://medicine.utah.edu/occupational-environmental-health/research/u-power/snapshots/salaries" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">highest in the nation</a>. It is only one of eight states that tax food: people with lower incomes pay a larger percentage of their earnings to to this tax than people with higher incomes. This tax needs to be eliminated</p>

<p>Voter enacted Proposition 4 prohibits the legislature from gerrymandering congressional districts. The Utah GOP has fought against implementing this voter mandated law for seven years. I will fight the GOP legislature's attempts to reverse the will of the people.</p>

I support measures that will lease or purchase water and support farmers and cities to reduce consumption.</p>
